Never is a Promise by Fiona Apple. There are a lot of songs on the Tidal album that are actually very low key and relaxing. But I could probably fall asleep to any type of music really. This song made the cut though because I almost fell asleep during it while driving to work yesterday :)
Day 09 - A song that you never get tired of hearing
I Have Nothing by Whitney Houston. Or really anything from Whitney Houston from this period. I tend to get tired of every song that I overplay. But I was thinking back to some of the older artists I like and it occurred to me that I will never skip over a Whitney Houston song from this era. I think that’s pretty impressive considering these songs were released in the 80’s and 90’s and I grew up with them and still like them today. Before she got into drugs, and they destroyed her voice, Whitney had a pretty amazing and unique talent, not to mention her story of how she came to fame. Many people try but few have a voice as good as she had. And the songs are actually written really well with good lyrics, not super cheesy like a lot of them were from this period.
Dying Day by Brandi Carlile. This was another hard category for me since I know the words to a lot of songs. But Brandi Carlile is another one of my favorite musicians and this may be my favorite song of hers. It’s also pretty cool that she is a Washington native and currently lives only about 10 miles from me with her wife!
Day 07 - A song that reminds you of a certain event
(I’ve Had) the Time of my Life by Bill Medley & Jennifer Warnes. I modeled as a little kid and we used to end all of our runway shows with this song. I loved modeling, even if it turns out I was a bit of a diva at the time, hehe.
America, Fuck Yeah from the Team America movie. This song is hilarious. So is the movie. When I was returning from Canada after my Bachelorette party, the girls and I blasted this song as we drove past the peace arch. Ahhh, memories!
The Nobody Does it Better cover by Radiohead. My husband surprised me at our wedding reception with a dance to this song, which he dedicated to me. It was very unexpected, and I think the song is self-explanatory. For the record, I feel the same way about him! :)
Carb loading. At least that’s what I’ll say I’m doing. It’s a rest week! Did a 42 minute swim last night and tonight I’m doing a 42 minute run followed by a 25 minute swim. I’ve been feeling pretty tired lately from training so this week is much needed.
Unspoken request by Boysetsfire. Boysetsfire are another one of my favorite bands. It was hard to pick a song that makes me feel sad. Because I actually tend to like things that are emotionally heavy - music, movies, books, etc. Usually it’s because it makes me feel, it’s real and I relate to it. This song helped me cope with my feelings of being sexually abused as a child. For a long time I was angry and suffered for a large part of my life. It was just in the last couple years that I’ve finally felt free. This song no longer makes me sad, but it reminds me of where I’ve come from.
